Achilles tendon pain / Otsego, MN
If the back of your heel is stiff in the morning or aches when you run, your Achilles may be asking for help. At ChiroFix in Otsego, MN, we treat Achilles tendon pain by working on the calf that feeds into it and calming the tendon itself.
The basics
The Achilles is the thick tendon at the back of your ankle that connects your calf muscles to your heel bone. It handles a huge amount of force every time you walk, climb stairs, run, or jump.
When it’s loaded more than it’s ready for, the tendon gets irritated and thickened. The calf above it usually tightens up too, which keeps pulling on an already cranky tendon.

How we treat it
We work on the calf that pulls on the tendon and use tools to help the tendon settle, just like we do for stubborn heel pain.
Acoustic pulses aimed at the irritated tendon and nearby tissue, one of our go-to tools for stubborn tendon pain.
About shockwave therapyHands-on work and gua sha through the calf muscles that feed into the Achilles, to take tension off the tendon.
Fine needles into tight, tender spots in the calf to help the deeper muscle let go.
About dry needling20 / 30 / 60-minute visits
Achilles pain involves the calf, ankle, and often the foot. A short visit rarely leaves time to treat them all.
We schedule 20 minutes for one or two areas, 30 minutes for three or four, and 60 minutes for the whole body. Many Achilles visits combine shockwave with calf work in the same session.
Runners, walkers, and people on their feet all day come to us for Achilles pain from Otsego, Elk River, Albertville, St. Michael, Zimmerman, Ramsey, and Rogers.
Questions
Tendons can be slow to change, and every case is different. We’ll set a plan after your first visit and check how the tendon responds as you go.
We’re a cash-pay clinic that accepts HSA and FSA cards, and we can provide a detailed invoice for out-of-network benefits. We do accept auto accident and workers’ compensation claims; call us first with your claim information.
Not always. We’ll talk through your training and help you adjust how much and how hard you run while the tendon recovers.
Get seen right away if you felt a sudden pop or snap at the back of your ankle, felt like you were kicked there, or can’t push off or stand on your toes. That can mean the tendon has torn.
General information, not medical advice. We will discuss whether a therapy is appropriate for you.
