Post-surgical scar tissue / Otsego, MN
The incision closed, but something still feels tight, pulled, or stuck. At ChiroFix in Otsego, MN, scar tissue is one of our specialties, and we release it gently, layer by layer, at a pace your body can handle.
The basics
When your body heals after surgery, it lays down new tissue to close the wound. That repair tissue is strong, but it’s laid down quickly and in every direction, not in the neat, organized lines of healthy tissue.
Over time, the layers under your skin, fascia, and muscle can stick together around the scar. That can leave the area feeling tight or thick, limit how you move, and even change how nearby joints and muscles work.

Common causes
A few things make post-surgical tissue more likely to tighten and adhere:
How we treat it
We start beside the scar, not on it. Working from the side, we use gentle pressure first and move closer and deeper only as your tissue allows.
We work along the sides of the scar to your tolerance, gradually breaking up the stuck layers as we get closer to the incision itself.
As the tissue softens, cupping lifts and separates the layers, and scraping helps break up tight, thickened areas.

About dry needling20 / 30 / 60-minute visits
Scar tissue releases best with patient, gradual work, and it often affects the muscles and joints around it too. That’s hard to do well in a quick appointment.
Choose 20 minutes when we’re focused on one or two areas, 30 minutes for three or four, or 60 minutes for the whole body. Many scar cases also involve nearby areas that have been compensating, so we’ll help you choose.
People recovering from surgery come to us from Otsego, Elk River, Albertville, St. Michael, Zimmerman, Ramsey, and Rogers, and we schedule around your energy and recovery.
Questions
We begin once your incision is fully closed and healed over. If you’re still under your surgeon’s care or aren’t sure, check with them about when hands-on work is OK.
It depends on the size and age of the scar and how your tissue responds. Older scars can still change. We’ll set a plan after your first visit and adjust it as the tissue loosens up.
We’re a cash-pay clinic. HSA and FSA cards are accepted, and we can give you a detailed invoice if your plan has out-of-network benefits you’d like to use. We do accept auto accident and workers’ compensation claims. Call us with your claim information before your first visit.
We work to your tolerance. We start gently beside the scar and only go deeper as your tissue is ready, so you’re always in control of the pressure.
